Effect of disturbances of occlusion in the etiology of periodontal diseases emergence

Abstract

In this article we present the results of a retrospective clinical reseach of patients with periodontitis to identify a possible link between periodontal disease and occlusal disorders. The aim of our reseach was to compare the depth of periodontal pockets of patients which occlusive disorders were corrected in the course of treatment and patients which we didn’t correct of occlusal disorders. A larger increase in pocket depth was observed in teeth with occlusal disorders compared with those who did not have them. Eliminating occlusive disorders by grinding or use of occlusial devices during periodontal therapy produces significant changes in the progression of the disease and improve treatment outcomes.
