Periodontal lesions in experimental modeling of Hashimoto's thyroiditis in rats

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to establish the relationships between changes in the periodontium and thyroid autoimmune inflammation in the experimental model of Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Autoimmune thyroiditis was modeled on 12 white mongrel female rats by subcutaneous injection at the tail base bovine thyroglobulin (Calbiochem) with complete Freund's adjuvant at the rate of 1:1. For pronounced autoimmune response has been used 100 mcg dosage of thyroglobulin. Injections were performed at day 1 and 7, slaughter animals and sampling of the material produced at 21 days. The analysis micropreparations control and experimental groups of animals shows a decrease in the functional activity of the thyroid gland in the experimental group. In the analysis of histological preparations periodontal tissues in the experimental group found both degenerative and inflammatory changes. Considering the results of morphological studies and immunogistohimical can be argued that the autoimmune process is generalized to defeat, including periodontal tissues, which requires not only adequate therapy of autoimmune thyroiditis, but also to develop gingivitis with the characteristics of autoimmune periodontitis.
