Comparative evaluation of the effect of isolated different types of toothbrushes on the 3D parameters of the surface roughness of dental restorative materials

Abstract

The study investigated the isolated effect of comparing 3 kinds of toothbrushes on the surface roughness of 2 dental restorative materials such as nanocomposite Filtek Ultimate (3M ESPE) and hybrid material Estelite Sigma Quick (Tokuyama Dental). The surface texture of the material was evaluated using the optical profilometer ZheScope and was defined 3D roughness parameters Sa and Sq. Measurement of the roughness parameters were performed before and after abrasion cycles. The impact on the surface of the samples was performed of the manual toothbrush Splat-Complete (SCM), of the electric brush Braun Oral-B Triumph 5000 (BOBT) and the sonic toothbrush Philips Sonicare FlexCare (PSFC). The samples of material Filtek Ultimate had a lower roughness value as compared to the roughness of the samples of material Estelite Sigma Quick before impact brushes. The smallest impact on the surface of the Filtek Ultimate material samples had the manual toothbrush Splat-complete. On the surface Estelite Sigma Quick smallest samples of material had the sound Philips Sonicare Flex Care electric and the Braun Oral-B Triumph 5000.
